Why Take Part?

Because AI isn’t just about automation — it’s about imagination, impact, and solving problems that matter.

At the AI Hackathon Aotearoa, you’ll be part of a nationwide movement to show how AI can be used for good — in our communities, our workplaces, and our future.

But it’s not just about the cause. It’s about what you’ll gain. Stretch your thinking, collaborate with industry mentors, and work on real-world challenges that sharpen your skills. You’ll grow your professional network, and learn from mentors. This is your chance to stand out and move forward.

The hackathon will be run online, so you can join from anywhere. Beginners welcome.

Entry Terms for Mission Ready AI Hackathon Participants

Registration and Selection
All registrations will be managed by Mission Ready.
Due to limited capacity, not all applicants will be guaranteed a place. Final participants will be shortlisted and referred to the national AI Hackathon Aotearoa organising team.

Selection will depend on mentor availability, judging resources, and the strength of submissions. All applicants will be notified of the outcome within two weeks of registration closing.

Judging Criteria
Projects submitted will be assessed based on the following:

  • Feasibility – Can this be built with current AI tools and technologies?
  • Applicability – Is the solution usable or actionable in a real-world context today?
  • Problem–Solution Fit – Does the idea clearly address a relevant, well-defined problem?

Our goal is to back ideas that not only push boundaries, but that have a real chance of being applied, refined, and scaled.
