Programme Coverage and Duration
THE SOFTWARE DEVELOPER ACCELERATOR IS ORGANISED INTO 3 FOCUSED STAGES:
If you have no coding knowledge, you will start from here.
This stage of the programme will build up your foundational skills and confidence with coding. By the end of this stage, you will be able to build a mobile-friendly web application from end to end. In the industry, we call the person who can develop a web application from end-to-end a Full-Stack Developer.
In these 12 weeks, you will learn:
- Create responsive web applications using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React.js
- Develop server-side software using node.js
- Use professional coding frameworks and libraries
- Security best practices
- Working with databases using SQL
- Create unit tests
- Use of IDE and source code management tools
- Coding best practices
- Understand software licenses
You will learn from hands-on sessions and after-session workshop and tutorial. Some group work will be involved.
When you successfully complete the 12 weeks, you will be awarded an NZQA-Approved Certificate in Technology Product Solutions (Level 4), and ready to join the “Cloud and DevOps Developer” stage.
You can start from this stage if you have prior coding knowledge or if you completed Full Stack Development stage.
In this stage, you will be learning all the hot skills that employers are looking for, and getting you ready for real work experience. By the end of this stage, you will be able to solve complex enterprise-level problems using Cloud, Artificial Intelligence, and DevOps practices.
In these 9 weeks, you will learn:
- Cloud services
- Artificial intelligence services
- Architectural patterns
- Agile mindset and practices
- DevOps and automated deployment
- Design thinking
- NOSQL and GraphQL databases
- JSON and API
- Unit testing
- How to present yourself in your CV, online, and in interviews
- To work in a project team
You will learn by joining sessions that explain how to solve enterprise-level technical problems, and given challenges for you to complete. Some group work will be involved.
When you successfully complete the 9 weeks, you will be awarded an NZQA-Approved Certificate in Technology Product Solutions (Level 5), and be ready for Mentored Industry Learning Experience.
You would have completed the Cloud and DevOps Developer stage before you can join the Mentored Industry Learning Experience stage.
In this stage, you are going to be immersed in real projects with real companies. These companies are from trusted Mission Ready business partners, such as Datacom, Auckland Council, and some small to medium sized businesses and for-impact organisations. You will be mentored by experienced professionals.
In these 10 weeks, you will gain:

When you successfully complete the Mentored Industry Learning Experience, you will be awarded an NZQA-Approved Certificate in Applied Technology Product Solutions (Level 6), and be ready as a professional Software Developer!

The Level 4 training scheme is for designed for beginners interested in starting a tech career. So if you are a high school dropout, second chance learner, career changer, or skill upgrader who is motivated by the need to gain or retain entry-level employment in the highly paid tech sector then this could be for you.
The Level 5 Training Scheme is intended for learners who are currently pursuing employment in a technology career in a collaborative, Agile software developer. The Training Scheme is specifically designed for those looking to pathway into employment. The learners most likely to benefit from this are career changers and skill upgraders particularly those with transferable technical skills, recent graduates or self-taught individuals with basic technical skills who are looking to gain employment within the highly paid tech sector, or upgrade to careers that require specialisation beyond foundational tech roles.
On successful completion, you will be invited to join the Level 6 Training Scheme. Its primary purpose is to provide learners enrolled in the Training Scheme with advanced skills in digital product design and delivery through professional practice in a work placement project. The aim is to enable learners to gain experience, practice the application of digital and technical skills and improve their work readiness to increase their chances of success in roles in the context of their practice as a Software Developer.
By the end of the Level 4 Training Scheme, you will be able to:
1. Analyse and select best fit solutions of existing and upcoming technologies in order to develop a technology product solution
2. Apply broad technical knowledge to develop a technology product solution
apply self-directed learning and self-reflection techniques with the purpose of becoming a lifelong learner
3. Apply security and technology product development best practices to deliver quality outcome in the context of practice
4. Apply collaboration skills to work as an effective team member
By the end of the Level 5 Training Scheme, you will be able to:
1 Apply Agile software delivery and design thinking practices to contribute to the development of digital technology product solutions in specific contexts of practice.
2. Apply industry standard best practices to contribute to the development of digital technology product solutions in specific contexts of practice.
3. Apply ethical decision-making principles when contributing to developing digital technology product solutions.
4. Apply effective professional interpersonal and collaborative skills when working on digital technology product projects with internal and external stakeholders.
5. Plan and deliver an effective communication strategy for purposes of obtaining employment or contract work
By the end of the Level 6 Training Scheme, you will be able to:
1. Evaluate project requirements and apply relevant industry-standard best practices to the development of digital technology product solutions in the context of practice.
2. Apply Agile and design thinking practices to successfully develop digital technology product solutions in the context of practice.
3. Evaluate the ethical impact of, and apply ethical considerations to, the development of digital technology product solutions in the context of practice.
4. Evaluate their own personal management, collaboration and communication techniques when working on a technical project with internal and external stakeholders in the context of practice.
5. Critically reflect on own experience working on an industry project to gain successful employment.
All study is structured, with a combination of guided and self-directed study, so you will need to have good time management skills.
As a full-time student you should typically aim for around 30-35 hours of study per week, for each of the 12 weeks. You will be required to engage with the online resources and activities, classroom sessions with other learners, and complete assessments.
After successfully completing this the Level 4 Training Scheme, you’ll be in a great position to apply for our Certificate in Digital Technology Product Solutions (Level 5), and go into our Applied Technology Product Solutions (Level 6) accelerator.
- Applicants must have the legal right to study in New Zealand and must be a Domestic Student to apply.
- All applicants must be able to meet the NCEA Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy requirements.
- If English is not your first language, you must provide:
- *New Zealand University Entrance, or
- *Overall Academic IELTS 5.5 with no individual band score lower than 5.0 (achieved in one test completed in the last two years), or
- *Acceptable alternative evidence of the required IELTS.
All eligible applicants will be interviewed by the admissions team at Mission Ready to ensure they have the foundation skills required for success
- Travel, accommodation (if required) and food costs associated with attendance at classes. Learners enrolled in the face-to-face option will travel to the teaching location site at their own expense.
- Broadband internet access.
- A computer or laptop device. Please advise on your application if you do not have access to the internet or a computer/laptop. Loan devices may be made available in extenuating circumstances.
